Civilization V (or Sid Meier’s Civilization V ) is a video game turn-based strategy , part of the series Civilization by Sid Meier . It was developed by Jon Shafer ; was released September 21 2010 in North America, September 24th in Europe through platform Valve . In Civilization V the player leads a civilization from prehistoric times until the ‘ space age (in a hypothetical future), on randomly generated maps, with the objective of victory achieved through research, diplomacy, expansion, economic development, government and military conquest. The game is based on a new graphics engine with hexagonal map instead of map squares that characterized the previous Civilization [1] .
Many elements of Civilization IV and its expansions have been removed or changed, such as religion and espionage. The combat system has been revised, with the removal of the possibility to stack units and with the possibility of defense of the city even in the absence of troops [2] . The map also contains city-states as non-player characters available for trade, diplomacy and conquest. The boundaries of civilizations also expand more realistically, favoring more productive terrain, [3] and the concept of roads has been revised. [4]
The game supports elements of interaction with the community, modding and multiplayer.
